Hello, thank you for watching. I’m Michael Brunner of Brogan Video. I wanted to
share with you some really interesting uses of video that I’ve encountered over the
past month, some really interesting successes, and of course a giveaway at the end
for anyone who watches all the way through. Thank you so much for watching. This is
the September newsletter of Brogan Video, and I’m Michael Brunner. Thank you.
Recently, I got to do a concert video for Lunafish, a local band here in Livermore.
I’ve been able to work with them since 2019, but what they’re having me do now is
something new. They’ve had a changeover with the members of the band, and they
wanted me to put a compilation video together showing the history of the band and
how long they’ve been working, but to highlight their new members. To really show
that the band is changing, but the band also has a history to them. It’s a
fascinating way to visually represent everything that they have achieved and that
they’re still going strong.
vertical videos are still incredibly popular, and you should definitely be using them.
But I wouldn’t recommend filming vertically. You’re locked into it. What I would
recommend is filming horizontally, and then just cropping to vertical,
because it’s much easier to film that way. It’s more comfortable for the person on
camera, and it’s much easier to get a really good frame because vertical, Well,
it gets a little tight and it’s hard to get, but even if you’re not using a real
high resolution camera like the one I’m using here, it’s still better to shoot
horizontally because the vertical resolution of a 4K camera, which most cell phones
are, is enough for HD in vertical resolution,
more than enough, and it’ll look great.
I love doing real estate videos. It is really fun just to walk through a house and
find how to visually show off the house in the best way. Some things don’t play
very well in video and other things do absolutely wonderfully. A realtor that I
networked with, Jenny Barron, had a great idea. She had a premium house.
Many bedrooms even had an ADU unit, and she really wanted to show off how
functional this house was for a large family. So she got some people to come in to
be a family, little kids and some adults, and we filmed it. We just had them
running around the house using the kitchen, using the fun area, playing in the
backyard, greeting people in the front yard, and what a great idea to use video to
illustrate how a house functions rather than just showing it off in a still. It was
a lot of fun to do, and I think it’s going to be very effective.
Eric Bolin is the owner of Solid House Marketing and a pretty great guy. He wanted
to advertise himself and he wanted to get creative. So he decided that he was going
to create an alter ego that was like the flash. And he called him Momentum Max,
had a commercial put together that showed off everything that Momentum Max can do.
And for me, it was a wonderful challenge to do these in -camera speed effects in
such a way that looked really good but still let his message be the main
communicator. It’s just really fun to have someone be creative with how they want to
sell their business and here’s a quick time lapse of everything that we had to do
in order to make this commercial work.
Here’s a little piece of advice for you. Whether you have $10 ,000 run into a full
video kit, or just a couple $100 of something that you may have inherited or
someone else didn’t need, whether you’re filming on a cell phone or you have a
dedicated camera, the number one piece of gear that you need, apart from the camera,
is a tripod. That is all. Because Because the second you can take the camera,
set it up in a place, and really think about its composition and let that speak
for a bit, you’re on your way to doing something much better.
A great guy that I networked with, Dan Curtis, is part of a company called Sleep
in Heavenly Peace that builds beds for kids, totally free. If you had a kid that
needs a bed, just go to sleep in heavenly peace, get your name on a waiting list,
and they will get you a bed. It’s so heartwarming to be part of it,
and I’ve been part of it twice now. Recently, they went to Oakland where they had
dozens and dozens of volunteers working to build 100 beds in a single day,
and then the next day, they delivered all of them. It was an incredible experience.
I am genuinely grateful that they asked me to film this because all of these people
together in such a vibrant place, and it was really hot that day, working so hard
to make these beds for all of these kids, just heartwarming stuff.
And I hope you look up Sleep in Heavenly Peace and find out what they’re doing
because it’s amazing stuff. Thank you so much for watching. And for my September
giveaway, I’m offering 20 % off to the first person who sees this and contacts me.
Just one for the month. So if you see it and you’re interested, be sure to contact
me right away. Thank you so much. I’m Michael Brunner of Grogan Video. Enjoy your
September, and thank you so much for watching.
