Now that September’s here, it’s a chance to revitalize the basics of your business,
to get back to what’s essential, and to remind your audience exactly what you do.
Of course, for you, it’s the same thing that you’ve always done, but it never hurts to give a good
reminder. So here’s three video ideas that you can use in September to remind your client base of
exactly what your business is and what you do.
I’ve said before, and I always mean it, that introduction videos are important, and every public
-facing business should have one. But recently, I’ve been hearing a lot about phony businesses.
Businesses that are set up and have phone numbers, websites, even locations,
but they’re phony. When the public gets really upset about this, and they do, they look to people
that they can trust. And one of the best ways to build trust is a professional introduction.
Letting people know exactly who they are, and letting them know who they’re going to be working
with. And especially for trades, who they’re going to be letting in their house, who they’re going
to be trusting with their finances. Now is the opportunity to stand out among all the other
businesses by showing that you are legit and you treat your clients legitimately.
Get yourself some customer testimonials. Asking them by email just to say,
what did you like about me? That’s great. You get some text. You can put that up on your website.
You can brag about it. But when you get someone on video, when you get someone really saying how
much your business just profoundly affected them and changed their life,
that is when you have something really special. I like to tell people that professional
introductions are great for when somebody emails you out of the blue with the question of what
exactly you do and how much do you charge. And of course, I’m being facetious,
but most of the time when people are cold calling a business, that’s their first two questions.
How much do you charge and what exactly do you do? Well, why not put those in video form?
So the last one is a very simple what do we do video. Explain exactly what the scope of your
products and services are and explain what you don’t do. So if people take a good watch of that,
they’re not going to waste their time and your time by calling you. And if you do offer the exact
services they want, they’ll know that you’re the person to talk to.
A video isn’t done once it’s been edited and posted. There are so many ways that you can recycle
and reuse video content. Here’s an example of an introduction for Eric Bolin.
We can crop this video down in order to make a tall version for social media. We can create a wide
version for a website. We can create a new social media clip. We can create a customer quote video.
We can create a promotional video for the holidays, or we can just take a still frame and create a
nice headshot. There are so many options of what you can do with video long after you think it’s
already done.
Since summer is beginning to wrap up, now is the time to start thinking about autumn and winter and
the sort of things that are going to be happening there and how you can plan ahead for them. A few
things that you can expect to happen are, and I have to read this, holiday promotions,
end-of-the-year fundraising campaigns, customer appreciation messages, giving Tuesday campaigns,
year-end review videos, and 2027 business announcements. So, whatever you have planned for 2027,
whatever you have in mind for the rest of the year, and whatever successes you’ve already had in
2026, now’s the time to get them on video and start sharing.
Quick tip of the month. I work directly with businesses most of the time, and it’s always
fascinating to me to see how some people view their businesses and how that differs from I view my
own business. And it can be a challenge to try to get at the core of what somebody really wants out
of their business. And if I’m, say, trying to get that in video form or just trying to help
understand exactly what they love about what they do, a great question to ask.
is what is one thing that you wish more people would know about your business? Most people will sit
and think about that. And once they start thinking, they’ll get some great ideas. And if you ask
the question correctly, the answers will be something that you never even thought of. How fun is
that? So as September wraps up, just remember that the story of your life and the story of your
business is an ongoing stream. And even though we are in another time of transition,
remember that the story that you are telling is just entering another chapter.
So go tell your story, have fun, keep filming, and I’ll see you next time.
Thank you so much. I’m Michael Brunner of Brogan Video.
